There are not many Internet users left on this earth that do not have an account at a social networking site like Facebook, Twitter or Google+. The same can be said for webmasters, bloggers and organizations who are more or less forced to have accounts on those sites. With that many profiles it is important to stick out. You can do that with lots of marketing and activity, or by making your profile page look different. One of the options here is a so called profile banner which can be added to the Google+ profile page. This banner consists of five 125125 pixel images that are displayed in line at the top. Why five images and not just one? Because Google has placed a 15 pixel border between each image. If you like working with programs such as Adobe Photoshop, Gimp or Paint.net you could use them to create your five profile photo images for the profile page. Or, if you do not have the experience or patience to do that, you could use a third party service like Avatar Banner to do the same. How does it work? You click on the Upload your picture button on the first page of the service and pick a large enough image file from your desktop. Large enough means that it should have at least a height of 125 pixels and a width of 700 pixels. A life preview is displayed on the same page below the uploaded image. Just move the visible space around on the image to test how it will look like on the Google profile page. Click on Render Images if you ware satisfied with the display. All images are then displayed on the next page where they can be downloaded to the local computer. Switch to your Google Profile page afterwards and click on the Edit Profile button there. Make sure you upload the five photos in the correct order from left to right. The new profile banner will be displayed on all pages of the profile. Expected August 20113th August 2011 The BlackBerry Torch 9810 is a straight upgrade to the popular Torch 9800, sporting a better display and a later version of the BlackBerry operating system plus some other improvements along the way. As with the previous handset,the Torch 9810 has a smallish 3.2″ touchscreen display, this time up to 480 x 640pixels from 360 x 480 pixels. The operating system is BlackBerry 7 rather than BlackBerry 6, internal RAM has been upped to 768Mb from 512Mb and the 5 megapixel camera on the back is now capable of HD video capture. The new operating system promises a better user experience, although version 6 was disappointing compared to rivals, so RIM need to raise their game here. It includes all the usual smartphone features such as a web browser and media player, plus of course excellent support for email because this isa BlackBerry. GPS is built in (plus a mapping application), and the Torch 9810 supports 3.5G data, WiFi and Bluetooth. It comes with a very useful 8GB of built-in flash memory plus a microSD slot, and it also hasa 3.5mm audio socket. The Torch 9810 is likely to appeal to existing BlackBerry users looking for an upgrade, Android customers will probably see the relatively small screen sizeas being a retrograde step. The Torch 9810 is quite heavy despite the small screen size, weighing 161 grams and measuring 111 x 62 x 15mm when closed. The 9810 forms one of a trio of BlackBerry 7 handsets alongside the BlackBerry Bold 9900 and the BlackBerry Torch 9850 / 9860 which RIM hope will stop users from defecting to rival platforms. Although these are likely to be the best BlackBerry devices ever, RIM will have a very hard time competing with the massively successful Android platform. RIM say that the BlackBerry Torch 9810 should be available later this month, no guidance was given on price although it will most likely retail for around 400 to 450 at launch.

A bill which would allow table games to be operated at Rhode Island racinos failed to advance beyond the governor’s veto, leaving voters unable to decide for themselves. A bill passed by both houses of the Rhode Island legislature which would allow full casino gambling at the state’s two slot parlors won’t make it to the voters, as a deadline to override the Governor’s veto passed today. Governor Donald Carcieri had refused to cooperate with a bill expanding gambling, and the lawmakers had to bypass the veto by today to have the measure placed on the ballot this year.The new law would allow the operation of table games, including blackjack and roulette, to the selection of gambling provided at the racinos.The Twin River slot parlor is already in bankruptcy, and the Newport Grand facility is struggling financially, as the state places an onerous tax burden on the gaming houses. Carcieri helped change rules which forced the two erstwhile dog tracks to meet minimum hours of live racing, as the racing was losing money, but the chunk given to the state is substantially greater than greyhound losses.Carcieri also denies his own constituents the right to decide the issue for themselves. Because the expansion of gambling requires a constitutional amendment, the ultimate fate of the bill would have been decided in the general election.With table gaming denied for more than a year at best, the future of the Rhode Island gambling houses is in question. OCA gambling analyst Sherman Bradley says the state’s greed, combined with its intransigence over admitting new casino games, may cost it the multi-million-dollar golden goose. Sony Ericsson chose today to embrace the world of social networking, taking to their burgeoning online community to reveal 2 new handsets, the Sony Ericsson Mix Walkman and the Sony Ericsson txt pro. The announcement came through their Facebook page where they have been running a competition for four super-fans to review the phones before they were announced to a global audience. Lesser fans can now vote on their favourite review (lives here but beware, you have to ‘like’ it to proceed!), and the reviewer with the highest number of votes will be granted their lifes desires (ten Sony Ericsson phones, of course!) The devices themselves are both feature phones that seem to run on a proprietary operating system. Neither of the handsets are 3G enabled, so users will have to rely on Wi-Fi or the good old EDGE network for accessing the web. Fans of the XPERIA mini range will notice that both of the phones have inherited the quartet of active areas in the touch-driven user interface, allowing users to put apps in each of the corner of the display for easy access. The Sony Ericsson Mix Walkman is, as the name suggests, a phone aimed squarely at music lovers with comes with 100MB of internal memory, as well as the ability to add a microSD card (up to 32GB in size) for storing all your Bon Jovi and Duran Duran classics on. The feature on this phone that has got us worried is the karaoke function, you would definitely understand if youd been at the office Christmas party. With one small click on the microphone key you can mute the dulcet tones of Lady Gaga and then sing along to the words on the screen to create your very own version of ‘Poker Face’. While this may not be our cup of tea in Omio Towers, it is sure to appeal to all those bedroom superstars singing into their hairbrushes (other pretend microphones are available). The phone also comes with two interchangeable bands that festoon the edge of the phone, that Sony Ericsson says users can use to adapt the colour of your phone to your mood…although we arent quite sure what mood a green hen is intended to reflect. The txt pro (yes they really have spelt it ‘txt,’ just like cool kids) has a slide out QWERTY keyboard and has a pretty nifty feature that pulls together tweets, Facebook updates and SMS messages from up to five friends and displays them in a single stream…can you say ’social networking savvy’? Both the Sony Ericsson Mix Walkman and txt pro will be released in Q3 of this year, but unfortunately no pricing has yet been released.
